Many years ago, while walking my two yellow Labradors, I met up with nice gal out walking her beautiful, female, yellow Labrador. After all the doggie sniff greetings settled down, I knelt to pet her dog and was quite amazed by how rich and soft her coat was. Compared to my dogs this lovely pup’s coat felt like silk! I asked the owner what her secret was and she smiled and said, “its easy, a couple of fish oil capsules every day!” I knew fish oil was good for humans but it never occurred to me that it would benefit my pets!
I immediately added the fish oil to my dog’s diets and they too developed soft silky fur. Now I have four dogs; two yellow Labradors and two Pembroke Welsh Corgi’s, all receiving a daily dose of fish oil pills for dogssporting gorgeous coats.

Dosage:
Use products made for either humans or dogs. The amount of EPA and DHA in various fish oil preparations varies. Look for concentrated forms when giving high doses so you use smaller amounts of oil. Healthy dogs can be given 100 to 150 mg EPA and DHA per 10 pounds of body weight daily
Dogs who have health problems can be given up to 300 mg per 10 pounds of body weight. One ounce of canned fish with bones (sardines, jack mackerel, pink salmon) averages about 300 mg EPA and DHA combined.”
What is EPA and DHA?
The acronym of EPA stands for eicosapentaenoic acid and DHA stands for docosahexaenoic acid. Both of which are omega-3 fatty acids that can be found in cold water fish. These highly unsaturated fats contain vital nutrients that support the healthy function of our brain, retina, and immune system.
